Directions
Brown onions. Add minced garlic near end and brown slightly. Add tomato soup and one can of water. Add diced tomatoes. Drop in pickling spice tied in cheesecloth. Simmer for 1 hour. Meanwhile, brown meat in batches and add to onion mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Cook on very low heat until thick and flavors are blended or about 1/2 hour. Add oatmeal to thicken and continue simmering for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. If freezing, let mixture cool before putting in containers. Serve on toasted hamburger buns or kaiser rolls. Optional additions: Shredded cheddar cheese, sliced tomatoes.
