Directions
The traditional pomanders are made by taking oranges and studding them with whole cloves - about 1/2-1/4 inch apart all over the orange. These are then rolled in the mixture below. 1/2 C ground cinnamon 2 tbsp. ground allspice 3 tbsp. ground cloves 2 tbsp. ground nutmeg 3 tbsp. orrisroot powder (substitute benzoin powder) Combine these ingredients and mix well in a large flattish bowl (wooden salad bowl works well). Roll the prepared fruit around in the mixture and set whole bowl aside. Every two days, roll the fruit around in the spice mixture. Keep rotating fruit until dry, then decorate with ribbons and hang in the closet. Will last about a year before the fragrance dies out. Rejuvenate with cinnamon and clove oils, or make new ones.
