2 bottles (750 milliliters each) dry bordeaux-type white wine 2 cinnamon sticks 2 slices fresh ginger root (each about 1/2-inch thick) 10 whole cloves, lightly crushed 8 peppercorns, lightly crushed 1 whole nutmeg, broken into pieces 1 cup sugar Place all ingredients in a large glass pitcher or half-gallon preserving jar; stir well to dissolve sugar cover.
