Ipocras (spiced Wine Punch)

2 bottles (750 milliliters each) dry bordeaux-type white wine 2 cinnamon sticks 2 slices fresh ginger root (each about 1/2-inch thick) 10 whole cloves, lightly crushed 8 peppercorns, lightly crushed 1 whole nutmeg, broken into pieces 1 cup sugar Place all ingredients in a large glass pitcher or half-gallon preserving jar; stir well to dissolve sugar cover. Refrigerate 24 hours. To serve, strain; ladle into punch cups. Nutrient Value Per Serving: 204 calories, 0.18 gm. protein, 0.06 gm fat, 8 mg. sodium, 0.00 mg. cholesterol.
